1971-1986 Open Edition

Description

Released as an open edition between 1971 and 1986, this pin series features Minnie Mouse's head turned forward to face the viewer with her eyes downcast, a slight smile, and a red tongue visible through an open mouth. She is depicted wearing a light blue bow while standing on a ceramic heart that resembles other pieces in the collection, though it is important to note that these design elements were applied to the painted hearts post-factum, resulting in varying degrees of off-center placement or slight tilts between individual pins. The set was originally created by Roz Simon and Wendy Niven as a ceramics jewelry company before the series expanded to include multiple pin styles, some of which featured brooch designs with single posts while others utilized glued-on backs without any backstamp. Flights of Fancy gained significant renown for creating colorful ceramic pins from popular household items like crayon boxes, Chewing Gum packaging, and tape dispensers, selling internationally including in Japan at department stores such as Bloomingdales and Macy's.
